Hackers Act As Police To Take Money From Those Watching Porn
Apple
users be alert! Update your iPhones or iPads as soon as possible
because a ransomware that exploits a security vulnerability in Mobile
Safari on iOS is found. The ransomware is asking people for money who
watch pornography on iOS devices in the UK, US, Ireland, Australia and
New Zealand.
The security researchers from Lookout
discovered the nasty mobile malware campaign previous month which is
known as “Scareware”. Scareware locks Safari web browser on an iOS
device is any users found watching pornography or other controversial
content on the internet.
Hackers here
tricked users with clones of real websites like the Metropolitan Police
website. Hackers show the message to victims that they have been locked
because they have found download music or x-rated content illegally. A
message demands £100 in iTunes credit to unlock the device.
If the victims try to go back or reload
the page, then the ransom message starts an infinite loop of pop-ups
named “Cannot open page”. Well, the ransomware was fake, clearing the
browser cache will be enough to restore the full access.
The
ransomware was written in Javascript. However, Apple came up with a fix
on Monday in the form of iOS 10.3. This new update from Apple changes
how the Safari browser handles javascript pop-ups.
Users
need to update their devices as soon as possible. Users can go to
iPhone’s General Settings and then select “Software Update” and update
it.
